Wodyetia bifurcata

Foxtail Palm (Wodyetia bifurcata)
Scientific name
Wodyetia bifurcata
Family
Arecaceae
Origin
Cape Melville, North Queensland
Status
Australian native

A striking native palm with plumed, bushy 'foxtail' fronds, only brought to botanists' attention in 1978 and now planted worldwide in warm climates. Self-cleaning and well behaved, it is a popular feature palm in Brisbane gardens.

Living with it

This is an Australian native and usually worth keeping where it has the room. Good pruning to Australian Standard AS 4373 keeps it healthy and safe. If it has outgrown its spot, we can reduce, lift or remove it properly.
